Privacy Policy

We built GreenBook to serve a community that has good reason to be cautious about who holds their data. So here's how we handle yours. No legalese where we can avoid it.
What we collect
Account info: Email, name, and a profile photo if you add one. This comes from Google sign-in, Apple sign-in, or email signup.
Demographics (optional): Race/ethnicity, age range, gender, spending comfort level. This is what powers your "People Like Me" scores. You can skip it entirely and still use the app.
Your reviews and posts: Leaflet scores, community stories, alerts, forum posts.
Location: Only when you're actively using the app to see nearby businesses. We never track you in the background.
Anonymous usage data: Things like which screens you visit and which features you use. Collected via PostHog. No names, no content, no identifying info attached.
How we use it
Pretty straightforwardly:
- Show you scores from people who share your background
- Rank businesses based on what the community thinks
- Display stories and safety alerts
- Send notifications you opted into
- Improve the app based on how people actually use it
Who sees your data
We do not sell your data. Not to advertisers, not to businesses, not to anyone.
Services that process data on our behalf:
- Supabase hosts our database (where your data lives)
- Google/Apple handle authentication if you use their sign-in
- PostHog collects anonymous analytics
- Sentry catches app crashes (no personal data)
- OpenAI powers natural language search (your query is sent, not your identity)
- Expo delivers push notifications
Your demographics
This is the most sensitive data we hold. Some specifics:
- It's completely optional
- Other users never see it unless you explicitly tag a story with it
- Businesses never see it
- It's used only to filter review scores for your community view
- You can delete it from your profile at any time
Your rights
- Delete your account: Profile, Data & Privacy, Delete Account. Gone permanently.
- Clear search history: In your profile settings.
- Export your data: Email us at privacy@greenbook.app
- Opt out of analytics: Email us and we'll turn it off for your account.
How long we keep things
- Account data stays until you delete your account
- Reviews stay until you delete them
- Community alerts expire after 14 days
- Stories archive after 6 months
- Analytics are anonymized and kept for 12 months
- Notifications clear after 90 days
Kids
GreenBook is not for anyone under 13. If you think a child has signed up, email us and we'll remove it immediately.
Changes
If we change this policy in a meaningful way, we'll let you know through the app. The date at the top tells you when it was last touched.
